What I'm Doing Now

Hip-hop in a Confucian land

After spending a summer traveling in Cuba and China (aka my Communist College Tour), I learned three important things.

1.) Always bring your own toilet paper

2.) Everybody in Cuba can dance. Asian people dance like we drive- either amazing, i.e Fast and Furious Tokyo Drift or every other crew on America's Best Dance Crew, or complete shit.

3.) Free speech and expression are privileges most people in the world don't enjoy.

As a journalist, this third gave me much pause. As a journalist and a hip-hop head, I wrote about how hip-hop in China became an anthem for outsiders where the government can send you to prison for song lyrics. Check it out.
